How we helped win a RIBA National Award 2026, and a Civic Trust Award

During the design stages of the Richard Cairns Building at Brighton College, we worked closely with the architects at KRFT to develop the flintwork element of the project, helping them realise their architectural vision.

Our specialist knowledge of flintwork enabled us to advise on the use, detailing and practical construction of the flint, ensuring the design could be successfully translated into the finished building.

The result is an award-winning project, recognised with a RIBA South East Award 2026, a RIBA National Award 2026, and a Civic Trust Award.

Normandy style flinting for a new build house in South East England

How we achieved the authentic look knapped squared flintwork

We were commissioned to deliver the flintwork for this large private residence, where the clients wanted to incorporate the ornate, patterned knapped squared flintwork of their native Normandy.

Drawing on our experience as specialist flint contractors, we worked closely with the architect and project manager from the early stages, advising on detailing, sourcing suitable materials and developing sample panels. Our knowledge of different flint quarries and traditional knapping techniques was key to achieving the intricate flint masonry and distinctive patterns required.

This was a challenging but hugely enjoyable build, combining traditional flintwork craftsmanship with a highly individual architectural design to create a striking and beautifully crafted home.
